Black Women Are Pushing Back Rumors of a Boycott Because of Michael B. Jordan’s Alleged Girlfriend

Actor Michael B. Jordan is a heartthrob among many Black women and as such, his rumored Latina girlfriend isn’t going over well. The “Black Panther” star was reportedly spotted over the holidays with Ashlyn Castro, whose Instagram account reveals little else about her. According to Hip Hop Wired, Castro has been involved with at least one celebrity before — Los Angeles Lakers forward Brandon Ingram — via Instagram comments.

But some seem to want Castro to step away from Jordan, who has not commented on the uproar.

There’s also been a rumor that Black women are boycotting “Black Panther” because of Jordan’s new reported girlfriend. It led several people to call Black women hypocritical for backing Serena Williams‘ and Meghan Markle’s relationships. However, Black women — who have no clue where the rumor came from — have swiftly pushed back against that idea.

While the two issues differ, the rumored boycott of “Black Panther” is reminiscent of Black women and feminists abandoning Nate Parker’s “Birth of a Nation” amid his resurfaced rape allegations in 2016.

This despite the fact that Jordan told Vogue in November that the craziest rumor he’s heard about himself is “that I don’t date Black women.”
