Liberals are vowing to keep resisting Donald Trump after Van Jones lauded the president for honoring a slain Navy SEAL during his congressional address.
The outpouring of opposition sprung up on Twitter Tuesday, Feb. 28, when Jones spoke about the recognition on CNN. Trump gave a tribute to Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens, who was killed in action during a ruined January raid against al-Qaeda militants in Yemen. His widow, Carryn Owens, was in attendance and shown tearing up at the honor.
“He became president of the United States in that moment. Period,” Jones said. “That was one of the most extraordinary moments you have seen in American politics. Period.
“For people who had been hoping that maybe he would remain a divisive cartoon, which he often finds a way to do, they should begin to become a little bit worried tonight,” he said. “Because that thing you just saw him do, if he finds a way to do that over and over again, he’s going to be there for eight years.”
Online, liberals commanded others to resist Trump, mocking Jones for going against his earlier calls to combat the president.
Van Jones: #Resist!
*Trump says the same lie every president says about a soldier dying for our freedom*
Van Jones: Swoon!

They were outraged that Jones seemed to change his mind about the president so easily after the journalist continuously bashed Trump throughout his presidential campaign and after his victory.
@CNN 45 may have done a presidential ACT by honoring her, but he is FAR from a President…And I liked Van Jones, so easily swayed smh

@CNN @jaketapper Sorry, Van Jones needs to have his head examined. He BLAMED HIS GENERALS for his death and is using it for publicity.

Van Jones got trumped by "new trump," bigly.
A REAL president would take responsibility for a deadly raid, not throw Generals under the bus.— BrooklynDad_Defiant!☮️ (@mmpadellan) March 1, 2017
Others users blamed Jones’ new outlook on his need to keep his contributor role at CNN.
Attempting to elevate his credibility as objective journalist&elevate own career .@VanJones68 does huge disservice to legitimate #Resistance

So Van Jones said 45 was Presidential. So he's a cheerleader bcuz Kushner said CNN should fire him for being mean to 45? #Spineless

Several slammed Jones because he praised Trump for taking advantage of the slain Navy SEAL’s widow.
Sorry Van Jones, it has NEVER been "Presidential" to parade around grieving victims of a system to gain public support for it. #GetWoke

@CNN @VanJones68 As a veteran, I was appalled. Authorizes a poorly planned mission, kills a Navy Seal and others, then exploits his widow.
— Jackie Ellis (@Cruiseit) March 1, 2017
@VanJones68 @DebraMessing maybe clarify how sending a SEAL to his death while tweeting + exploiting his widow’s pain on TV = presidential.
