Kanye West is giving wife Kim Kardashian credit for making interracial dating and empowered women acceptable in a new radio interview. He also reveals his thoughts on race in America.
The outspoken rapper called Steve Harvey In The Morning to discuss his thoughts on the air.
Referring to Kardashian, who he says gave him the money to fund his fashion line – which includes Yeezy Boosts – he claims the reality star is singlehandedly responsible for making interracial dating acceptable.
“She’s breaking boundaries on so many levels from… you can’t give me an example of… as popular of a mixed couple. And I got friends that have had, you know, white wives, that before there was a KimYe, they go to the amusement park and people be talkin’ down to them. Treating them a certain kind of way. She broke boundaries with that.”
He goes on to claim that his union with Kardashian made strides in fashion and empowered women to make their own money.
“She broke boundaries with fashion, where designers weren’t trying to make clothes with women with shape, and now they’re all about embracing and empowering women. [She’s] empowering women in a matriarchal society where women can make money.”
Toward the end of the interview, West discusses racism and claims that enslaved Africans were the first unpaid interns.
“It’s not about Kanye West. It’s not about Taylor Swift,” he said, bringing up the “Shake it Off” singer though Harvey insisted he had no plans to ask about her. “There’s a lot of people in America that feel like they don’t have the platform to stand up and express their closet racism. Now, before they had that platform, one really easy way to express it was to say, ‘Eff Kanye West.’ ”
He continues, “We was brought over here as unpaid interns, bro. Lincoln turned us into assistants. We ain’t had no voice.”
