Solange Knowles admits she previously didn’t know how to “limit” her bold style.
The 27-year-old singer is known in the fashion world as well as the music one, and is currently the new art director and creative consultant of Puma. She has also teamed up with online retailer eBay to create a handpicked collection.
Looking back at her own past fashion choices, Solange admits she didn’t have success with all of them.
“You can pull images of me from seven to 14 years ago and I was absolutely nuts,” she admitted to Harper’s Bazaar magazine. “I have always been drawn to interesting pieces and colours, but I didn’t quite know how to limit myself and make those statement pieces work.”
When her son Julez began school in L.A., Solange finally found the time to sort through her belongings. She feels much more content with her taste now her wardrobe is neat and updated.
“I had to stabilize our lives and stay in one place. It sounds silly, I know, but having space for my clothes made a huge difference,” she smiled. “I was able to get organized, free myself of clutter, and develop a style that felt like me.”
Thinking to the future, Solange feels confident in what she wants to achieve. She hopes to take on more ventures that demonstrate her skills.
“Everyone talks about how, in your 30s, all of these growing pains transition into wisdom and you feel more self-assured and confident, but I think I had a bit of a jump-start on that at 27,” she explained.
“For the first time in my life, I’m basing every decision around the idea of whether I want to do it or if I think it will be inspiring. And that’s paid off for me.”
