Djimon Hounsou has agreed to join the cast of Universal Pictures’ “Fast & Furious 7.”
The two time Oscar-nominee is the latest to join the already high-profile cast as an unspecified character. Hounsou joins Vin Diesel, Michele Rodriguez and Paul Walker, who all are returning to reprise their roles. Joining the cast as newcomers are Jason Statham, Kurt Russel, Tony Jaa and MMA fighter Ronda Rousey. Dwayne Johnson is rumored to make a cameo in the film also.
James Wan will be directing from a screenplay by Chris Morgan. This will be Wan’s first directing job with the franchise.
Plot details are scarce at this time and it’s unclear whether Hounsou will be friend or foe to Dominic Torreto and Brian O’Connor (Diesel and Walker’s characters).
Hounsou has several films slated for theatrical release in 2014, including “Seventh Son“, “Vatican Tapes,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.” But the actor will be next seen in David E. Talbert’s romantic comedy “Baggage Claim” scheduled to hit theaters Sept. 27.
“Fast & Furious 7” comes to theaters July 11, 2014.
