Ben Affleck Will be Batman in ‘Man Of Steel’ Sequel

Ben Affleck has been named as the man who will star as Batman in the sequel to the Superman movie Man of Steel, Warner Bros. announced Thursday.

There has been much speculation about who would play the caped crusader in the yet-to-be-named film ever since Man of Steel director Zack Snyder announced at Comic-Con last month that the two superheroes would appear together on the big screen for the first time.

Affleck will star opposite British actor Henry Cavill, who Warner Bros. said will reprise his role as Clark Kent and Superman.

Two weeks ago, The Hollywood Reporter created a list of possible actors for the  Batman role, including Ryan Gosling or Josh Brolin as the two most likely candidates.

It’s not surprising The Hollywood Reporter left Ben Affleck off the list because the actor’s past role as Marvel’s Daredevil in the 2003 film could be seen a conflict of interest.

Warner Bros. also announced Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will return for the Man of Steel sequel, which is scheduled to begin production next year and is due in theaters July 17, 2015.
