Lil Wayne Says He Didn’t Deliberately Step on American Flag

Lil Wayne came under fire this week when a controversial video was released showing the rapper stepping on the American flag.

A behind-the-scenes video of Weezy filming the music video to his song “God Bless Amerika” shows him rapping in front of the flag, then stepping on it as the flag drops to the ground.

The reaction to Lil Wayne’s supposed disrespect of the flag was quick and angry. Viewers spoke out on Twitter saying they”lost respect” for the artist, while one MMA fighter claimed he “would do almost anything to fight Lil Wayne” as “desecrating the American flag is a sure way to piss [him] off.”

The 30-year-old rapper was prompted to comment on the incident, taking to his Twitter page to claim it wasn’t on purpose.

“I  didn’t step on the flag on purpose! It’s a scene in a video where the flag drops behind me and after it drop it’s just there as I perform,”  he tweeted.

Flag-stomping music video aside, the lyrics to the single are already controversial in their own right. The track has Weezy rapping, “God bless America / This old godless America… Damn, military minded, lost and can’t find it / The stars on the flag are never shining.”

I don't care who people are.. if you live in the USA or are visiting, you respect the FLAG and don't use it to get attention to yourself. Lil WAYNE just proved he has no respect for this great country and no talent to even let his art speak for itself without having to be controversial. Sorry but I have no respect for anyone who disrespects our flag…..
