JLo Set for Idol Return? Mariah Carey Threatens Lawsuit Over Diva Exchange – Report

Mariah Carey will not be pushed out of American Idol – not without a fight! According to a report released by the Hollywood Reporter, Fox and Idol execs forged a desperate plan to save the mega-show by replacing Carey with Jennifer Lopez – mid season! The plan unfolded however when Carey’s team of lawyers threaten litigation against the network.

Reportedly Idol execs are still hoping to land the fan favorite J.Lo for the finale next month. But while Carey may have saved her job for one season it may still be her last. Ratings continue to slip for the former no. 1 rated talent show and with NBC’s The Voice posting impressive numbers Idol boss Nigel Lythgoe is considering wiping out the entire judges panel for next season.

Not surprisingly, everyone is denying the reports.

“This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale,” a Fox spokeswoman tells THR in a statement. Producer Fremantle NorthAmerica declines to comment. A rep for Carey denies these allegations. Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe tells THR: “I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season.”

A quick glance in the comment section of THR reveals viewers are torn. Nicki Minaj should get the boot before Mariah. Middle American’s are reportedly “turned off by her aggressiveness”. Mariah Carey is being to nice and J.Lo first year on Idol was great but she too became too nice.

What do you think of the current judges panel and is time for American Idol to call it quits?
