According to Tyler Perry, casting reality-television star Kim Kardashian in his latest film “Temptation” may help to portray her as a ‘role model.’ Who knew?
Yahoo reports the filmmaker has received major backlash for giving Kardashian her first major acting gig in his latest film.
Many people believe that the backlash is justified based on Kadashian’s claim to fame as an amateur-porn-star-turned-reality-television-starlight. Perry, however, sees things differently.
“I said to one of my producers, ‘who else is out there that young people are looking up to?'” Perry said. “One of them showed me pictures that his daughter had taken of several hundred kids lined up around the corner to get into a Kardashian store. They wanted to meet Kim. I thought, what better person! She literally has millions of young people following her.”
Industry Analysts explain why Perry casting Kardashian will most likely boost the movie’s overall success in the box-office, even if critics widely consider his movies to be flops.
“It’s always a little trickier for Tyler Perry when he doesn’t bring Madea with him,” Phil Contrino, BoxOffice.com editor-in-chief, told TheWrap. “And this should bring some people out, even if it’s to see her fall on her face.”
Even if Perry’s decision to hire Kardashian will only result in viewers observing the reality star “fall on her face,” it will have little impact on his bank account.
Globally, his last 12 big-screen films have earned more than $630 million. Furthermore, his movies featuring the popular Madea character continue to be his biggest money-makers; his 2009 release “Madea Goes To Jail” eventually generated $90 million and remains his top-grossing movie.
But despite Perry’s ample financial fortune, his fan base is up in arms about his decision to move forward with casting Kardashian, and have been since 2011 when many of them initially asked him not to.
Even more recent data collected and analyzed by E-Poll Market Research, a business firm that measures an artist’s marketability, suggests that the popularity of the father of Kardashian’s child Kanye West has seen a significant decrease.
I’ve never been a die-hard fan of either West or Perry, but those who are die-hard fans have every right to disassociate themselves from the two after they connected themselves to Kardashian.
There is no mistaking it – the woman is beautiful, but I have no idea how she could even be considered a role model, given the incredibly annoying and obnoxious mentalities of not only her, but her sisters and mother.
I’ve caught glimpses of their reality television series “The Kardashians” and saw absolutely nothing inspiring, uplifting or ‘role-model-like’ about any of them. This isn’t an attack on any of their characters (at least, that isn’t the intention) but more of an attempt to understand how and why they are so popular, given the fact that none of them are especially talented in any noticeable way.
In the grand scheme of things, of course, none of this really matters. The Kardashians, Kanye West and Tyler Perry will all continue to make more money than most people can ever fathom, and their fan bases will continue to expand regardless of decreasing overall likability.
Must be nice.
“Temptations” hits theaters nationwide on March 29th.
