'The East' Trailer Hot From Sundance

The trailer for action eco-thriller The East just hit the web after getting some attention at its Sundance premiere last night. The East stars Ellen Page, Alexander Skarksgard, and Brit Marling. Marling is an up and coming writer and actress who co-wrote the film with director Zal Batmanglij.

The film apparently opens in the mansion of an oil company CEO. His company recently spilled oil in the Atlantic, killing absurd amounts of wildlife and polluting the surrounding waters. As payback, an anarchist collective, The East, stages an oil spill in the mansion just to see how HE likes it. Footage of the man made mansion oil spill goes viral and The East makes international headlines. Marling plays an ex-FBI agent who goes undercover in the The East to bring it down, only to find herself falling for its leader, played by Alexander Skarsgard.

It’s “eye for an eye” type justice in the hands of an eco-friendly terrorist group. Sounds not only thrilling and exciting to watch, but very relevant to the man made environmental issues plaguing the Earth today.

Brit Marling first made waves at Sundance back in 2011, when she wrote two movies featured in the festival. Neither Another Earth or The Sound Of My Voice went on to be blockbuster hits, but both put her on the map as both an actress and screenwriter. The actress turned writer justified her crossover by saying “the best way to get decent parts was to write them, herself.”
