Like any sound-minded cinema fan, I’m keenly interested in Hitchcock. It seems to be avoiding the worst inclinations of a biopic by focusing on one part of its subject’s life, rather than trying to encapsulate all of them. In this case, it covers Alfred Hitchcock’s life during the making of Psycho, and is based on Stephen Rebello’s… Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho. Now, THR has a new poster for the film, which spotlights Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock and Helen Mirren as his wife, Alma Reville. Reville’s name isn’t nearly as well-known as her husband’s, but she was a brilliant film editor, and instrumental in his career. The trailer for the film, released several weeks ago, suggests that it’s giving Reville her proper due. That trailer is also the main reason I’m excited for the movie, as it looks like terrific fun. Anyway, “Behind every Psycho is a great woman,” isn’t the best tagline, but it’s far, far from the worst.
Hitchcock will be released November 23rd.
