After getting arrested following an allegedly violent altercation with wife, Evelyn Lozada, being dropped by the Miami dolphins, and hearing news that VH1 has canceled the upcoming reality series Ev and Ocho, it’s pretty evident that Chad Ochocinco Johnson has had it very rough the past few days.
In case you’ve just awaken from a coma, Johnson was arrested Saturday and charged with simple domestic battery after he allegedly head-butted Lozada during an argument in their car in fron of their Florida home. According to the arrest report, the reality star found a receipt for condoms in the car’s trunk, confronted Ochocinco about it, then all hell broke loose. She ran to a neighbor;s house and called 911.
As a result Chad Ochocinco has lost two sources of income, and it doesn’t look like he has any chance of getting them back.
“Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series Ev and Ocho from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it,” the network said in a statement.
Ev and Ocho was scheduled to premiere Sept. 3 and follow the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver and his wife, who currently stars in the VH1 reality series Basketball Wives.
So why was VH1 so quick to drop Evelyn’s and Ochocinco’s show after a domestic violence incident, especially since the case hasn’t even seen a courtroom yet? After all wasn’t this the same kind of violent drama that has made shows like Basketball Wives, Love & Hip Hop, and Love & Hip Hop Atlanta as popular as they are.
Well it seems that the network is still feeling the pressure from a recent call to boycott these shows, which has been criticize as being negative and stereotypical portrayals of black women. VH1 had no choice but to cancel Ev and Ocho because airing it would show a disregard for the concerns that were raised about it’s programming — especially when one of their most famous reality stars, Evelyn Lozada, is at the center of all the violent drama, both on screen and off.
