While black people last week debated whether Gwyneth Paltrow crossed the line when she tweeted “real n*ggas in Paris” after attending a Jay Z-Kanye West concert, acerbic comedian and political commentator Bill Maher said that instead we should be focusing our attention on people like blogger Matt Drudge when we’re looking for racism.
“The problem with racism is not Gwyneth Paltrow, the problem with racism is Matt Drudge,” Maher said.
Maher said his staff at “Real Time with Bill Maher” monitored “The Drudge Report,” viewed as a bible for the American right wing, and were stunned by how often he posted pictures of black men that made them look angry and scary. Maher showed pictures of Mike Tyson, Marion Barry, Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton, Eric Holder and Michael Jordan, all looking threatening and intimidating.
“This is racism in America,” Maher said.
