Rihanna is once again defending her right to record music with whomever she sees fit. Last month when her sexy “Birthday Cake” remix featured her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown the web went crazy. Are they back together? Is she sending the wrong message? Rihanna remained quiet through most of the controversy but her latest cover story with Esquire magazine brings it back to the surface.
“It never occurred to me how this was going to be a problem,” she tells the Esquire. “I thought people were gonna be surprised that we finally did a record together, but I didn’t see how people could think it was a bad thing, you know? In my mind, it was just music . . . I could never see anything wrong with making music.”
Despite Rihanna’s explanation the interview went south….way south…after the author prodded the singer for more information.
“[I worked with Brown] in a completely professional environment,” she explained in frustration. “I mean, if I went back to him [as a girlfriend], then that’s a whole different discussion. If I ever do, then that’s something that y’all have to talk to me about when — if — that ever happens. Until then, look at it for what it is.”
