Beyonce to Receive Writing Award from Black Journalists Association

Beyonce will be honored with a writing award from the New York Association of Black Journalists on May 15 for a feature editorial she wrote for Essence, entitled, “Eat, Play, Love.”

The singer and actress, who has recently been named People Magazine’s, “Most Beautiful Woman in the World” of 2012, documented her 9-month vacation from the biz in 2010 for Essence.

The July 2011 cover story details her life with husband and business mogul, Jay-Z, as well as adventures such as eating artichokes, jumping into the sea from yachts and slipping into a Tokyo nightclub as a “Harajuku” girl.

“I’m grateful for the time I gave myself to breathe,” she wrote.

Though some have called her writing skills into question, as well as her pregnancy, Essence entertainment director suggests she wrote every word.

“She’s a real writer. We had to edit her, but everyone gets edited except Toni Morrison,” Editor Cori Murray told NewsOne.

Soon Beyonce will be able to add yet another award to her glorious hall of fame. While some will question whether she deserves to be honored with an award from a prestigious organization like the New York Association of Black Journalists, it’s clear they believe she is worthy.
