Update-Stacey Dash is officially leaving Single Ladies. Yet she forgot to mention she was fired from VH1’s Single Ladies in a released statement- instead she opted to use the age old reason every professional uses who’s been pushed out of a job: to spend more time with their family.
Rumors circulated last month that Stacey Dash was fired from her role as Val due to a conflict with Lisa Raye earlier in the season. Many fans have expressed their loyalty to Dash’s character. Some even stated they will boycott the show if Val/Stacey doesn’t return. Stacey remained quiet through the rumors while Lisa Raye defended herself from attacks. Lisa Raye stated she had nothing to do with Stacey’s firing nor does she have any authority to make that decision.
Well, we shall play devil’s advocate for a minute here. Single Ladies creator, Stacy A. Littlejohn talked about the cast and her process to bringing Single Ladies into fruition. About Lisa Raye she stated,
LisaRaye was chosen because I created Keisha with her in mind. She’s one of my best friends. I’ve written for her on four seasons of All of Us and I know her tone very well. Also, I wanted Keshia to have a comrade, someone who was on her level with certain life experiences and who had been in the game as long as her.
Soooooo…Stacy (the show’s creator) and Lisa Raye are besties, Stacey Dash and Lisa Raye have a conflict on set, Stacey/Val gets fired leaves. Hmm…
Dash decided to take the professional route and provided this statement to GlobalGrind,
“I have to be back in L.A. with my children right now and the ‘Single Ladies’ shooting location [in Atlanta] makes this impossible. I wish VH1 the best of luck with the show in maintaining the strong fan base we developed in Season 1.”
VH1 responded with their own statement, “VH1 respects Stacey’s decision and her commitment to what she feels is best for her family. We thank her for all of her hard work in making ‘Single Ladies’ a success right out of the gate, and we wish her nothing but the best in her future plans.”
What do you think Stacy Littlejohn will do with Jerry and Quinn, Val’s boutique? Will they introduce another actress as Val – will it work? Will you continue to watch Single Ladies without Stacey Dash/Val?
