There are several noteworthy releases this week in terms of both new material and remixes.
First up is Eve with a remix of Rihanna’s chart topper “Diamonds.” The rapper confidently begins the track “new life, new love, I’m a new girl,” seeming eager to get back in the game. Eve’s part is sassy and fun, a nice contrast to Rihanna’s brooding vocals.
The remix is reminiscent of “Umbrella,” Rihanna’s 2007 smash that featured a guest rap from mentor Jay-Z, but lacks the earlier song’s killer “ella ella” hook.
The Game has also released a new track, “Jesus Piece,” which features Kanye and Common. The song has several religious metaphors and also makes a statement on rap itself. “Hip-hop was better off when it was just Dre, Scarface, and Esco,” raps The Game.
Another collaboration making waves is Snoop Lion and Angela Hunte’s “Here Comes the King.” Now that Snoop has transformed himself from Dogg to Lion, his work has taken on an eclectic rasta style. “When the spirit called me, it told me to find something that was connected towards the Bob Marley spirit,” claimed Snoop. The Marley-inspired track features guest vocals from Hunte.
Finally, Bruno Mars dropped a song from his upcoming release, Unorthodox Jukebox, called “When I Was Your Man.” The powerful piano ballad contains typically passionate vocals from Mars as he sings about an ex. Unorthodox Jukebox, Mars’s second studio album, will drop next week.

In the next few weeks, be on the lookout for new material from Beyonce. Megawatt producer and songwriter The Dream (“Umbrella,” “Single Ladies”) let slip that Beyonce would “definitely” be releasing a new song before her Super Bowl performance. “She took the summer to start recording, and now she’s in a place where she’s ready to start gearing up to reveal her plan,” he said.
This news came only days after Beyonce teased her new HBO documentary and hinted at new song lyrics.
