UPDATE-Oprah, Kardashians – Kim Kardashian’s interview with Oprah Winfrey for OWN’s “Next Chapter” reiterates her 72-day marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries was not a publicity stunt.
“I was in love: I wanted the life that I always pictured my fairytale life to be,” Kim told Oprah. “I would’ve had an extravagant wedding anyway, to end that relationship was a risk in itself to lose ratings and I had to take the risk to be honest to myself.”
Though the 31-year-old didn’t want to lose her fan-base, the buxom beauty insists the nuptials didn’t take place to create a bigger buzz around her or her family because they didn’t need it.
“We have an amazing fan base that watches the show — we don’t do anything for ratings.”
Kim chalks her and the New Jersey’s Net forward failed marriage up to not knowing each other well enough and even admitted to never spending an entire week together before their televised nuptials.
“When we moved in together, I saw how our relationship was… I don’t want to get into the small things, but once we moved in, I knew he was not the one.”
While not once mentioning her ex’s name, the reality star seemed to have made peace with her decision to leave the marriage though realizing she hurt Kris.
“For anyone I hurt, I’m truly sorry, I don’t wish pain on anyone, but the person I am because of that crazy experience, I wouldn’t change it for the world,” Kim said. “I loved him, obviously it hurt him, and it hurt me too. It was embarrassing, I don’t want to call it a mistake, it was a lesson.”
“He’s a good person,” she said. “I will always have a place in my heart for him. It just wasn’t for me.”
Thinking she was being responsible and acting on what felt right for her, the media-hyped backlash sent her into a depression.
“I was in such a deep depression I thought I was going to back away from everything. I stayed at home for almost four months and I’m a better person now, as heartbreaking as it was to go through.”
I feel like I’ve had an epiphany over the last year. Where I am now, my life is not all about me,” she admitted. “The fans who watch the show get our personalities, but because of the divorce, this platform has been given to these haters…but [their chatter] doesn’t affect me like it used to. I’m totally growing up.”
The tone switched when the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star swooned over her new love, rapper-designer Kanye West, 35.
“I always dated five years younger. My whole thing was completely different, and now I just love that I’m with someone that’s a couple years older than me.”
