Kanye West is further stretching himself and this time with a new short film “Cruel Summer” that is set to debut on the Palm Beach in Cannes, France during the Cannes Film Festival.
The “Otis” rapper announced Friday that he’ll present the film Wednesday at the French festival. West and his creative collective DONDA will screen the “short art film” out of competition in Cannes.
The under-the-radar movie was inspired by the forthcoming G.O.O.D. Music album and will world premiere May 23, remaining available for public viewing two days thereafter.
“Cruel Summer” is being described as “a fusion of short film and art installation … an immersive ‘7 screen experience’ for the eyes and ears unlike anything West has attempted before.”
Comedian Aziz Ansari, Kid Cudi, Lebanese actress Razane Jammal (“Djinn”) and Palestinian actor Ali Suliman (“The Kingdom”) are all starring in the Kanye-produced, written, and directed film based on a screenplay by Elon Rutberg.
Elon was the associate director of the Throne’s “N—-s in Paris” video. The co-director is Alexandre Moors, who worked with West on “Runaway” as well as the “Paris” clip.
