Rapper Kodak Black is making headlines yet again, but this time it is for using his fortune to provide pay tuition for children of two of fallen FBI agents and by launching a $100,000 scholarship fund in remembrance of a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Florida.
Black was inspired to launch the fund in honor of Meadow Pollack, one of 14 students slain during the mass shooting on Feb. 14, 2018, at the South Florida school. In total 17 lives were lost, including a teacher, a football coach, and the school’s athletics director.
Black, who was Pollack’s favorite rapper, visited the school on the third anniversary of the massacre. During a ceremony to honor the victims, Kodak explained the scholarship fund will assist students at Nova Southeastern University Law School studying justice reform at the Fort Lauderdale school.
Pollack’s brother Hunter currently attends the school.
“The situation is bigger than Meadow Pollack. It’s about all the other kids. It’s about the whole school. It’s about all of Broward [County]. And I want to help. I just want to have a positive impact on this community.” Black said in a video shared on Twitter.
A week prior to attending the memorial, two FBI agents were killed while serving a federal warrant at a home in Sunrise, Florida. Black learned of the fatal shootings, and, through his attorney Bradford Cohen, offered to pay college tuition for the late agents’ children.
“Kodak has always put kids first in his charitable donations. He has a passion for making sure kids in crisis are supported financially and emotionally,” Cohen told Fox News. “That being said, whatever he can do to help, he always offers his assistance. He gives his heartfelt condolences to the families and hopes his offer eases their pain.”
People on social media who may not have known the rapper applauded the gesture.
