It’s been mere days since singer Ray J Norwood shocked the world by filing for divorce on Monday, Sept. 14, from his wife of four years, Princess Love.
Norwood and Love share two beautiful children together and reconciled two months ago after Love dismissed her request to split from the “One Wish” artist. However, it was Norwood’s decision to put divorce back on the table, and he recently explained why to ET News.
“You know, I love her and I love my babies, and it’s just personal, but she knows how I feel about her,” the “Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood” star said, after admitting he “hasn’t had a chance to sit back and think about” his decision.
“I just think that I want to make sure everybody is happy, that everybody enjoys life and that this can help her smile more and enjoy who she is and enjoy her life,” he said. “You know, sometimes it’s the best thing to do.”
Norwood said he had Love and their two kids’ — daughter Melody Love, 2, and 8-month-old son Epik Ray — best interests at heart when making his decision.
“It’s still so early, I really don’t know what’s going to happen, how it happens, but I just want to make sure that my babies and Princess is in a great place mentally and that they can enjoy life,” Norwood explained. “My wife, if there’s somebody better out there that she wants to be with, then I have to respect that as well. But hey, I don’t know … I can’t say too much, but I love you, Princess. That’s what I can say.”
Norwood said he’s focused on making sure his and Love’s children are happy, even while he suggested that he’s not opposed to reconciling.
Last year, an 8-months pregnant Love accused Norwood of leaving her and baby Melody stranded in Las Vegas while he allegedly partied with his friends. Following the incident, the model took to Instagram and told online users she “didn’t want to be married anymore.”
Norwood scolded his wife for bringing their issues to social media and moved out of their Los Angeles home after their drama.
Fans have had mixed reactions to the estranged couple’s melodrama.
“Fight for your marriage and your family, dont throw in the towel… all marriages take work, once you all get pass the hard it is easy sailing from here on out,” a fan commented on Norwood’s Sept. 15 post.
Another added, “Divorce….FINALLY. You don’t deserve her anyway. She needs to know her own worth.”
Gossip site The Shade Room reported that Love found out about Norwood’s divorce filing on social media like everyone else. The singer-songwriter reportedly won’t return any of her phone calls or text messages.
