Ciara and the “Life Is Good” artist started dating in 2013, and the former pair got engaged shortly after in October 2013. They called their relationship quits three months after their son Future Zahir Wilburn was born in 2014. The “Level Up” singer implied in a 2019 interview with American drag queen RuPaul that she was not expecting to be a single mother following her breakup with Future and explained that she cried a lot before meeting her husband.

“Before I met my husband, I went through one of the most challenging phases of my life,ā€ she said. ā€œI was a single mom, and I had never been in that place before. That really made me stop and take a look back on the journey, and I was like, ā€˜Okay, Iā€™ve gotta change something up here.ā€™ ”

Ciara expressed the idea that she prayed for a happy and healthy marriage. “Iā€™d be very specific about what I was hoping for in my life as it related to love and also just me, my own growth. I was ready to level up in general, just in life in general, period. I was wanting a lot more from myself, and so I definitely would pray a lot. I would cry a lot, and then I would pray a lot, and God is good!ā€
