Cardi B says she’s going to donate the proceeds from the remix of her coronavirus rant to help with relief efforts surrounding the pandemic.
The song was produced by DJ iMarkkeyz, who put music to Cardi expressing her fears about the virus on Instagram earlier this month. The cut soon went viral and reached No. 11 on iTunes’ hip-hop chart.
It was even heard playing at a Brazilian night club, which Cardi responded to.
“I might [as] well do a damn music video,” she tweeted on March 16.
Then, the following day, Cardi seemingly still couldn’t believe how big the song was still becoming and said she ought to be getting paid for it.
“The fact this damn corona virus song is charting on iTunes …Hold on ..let me hit the DJ up and Atlantic so I can get my damn coins,” she wrote on Instagram.
That same day, someone on Twitter suggested that DJ iMarkkeyz and Cardi donate whatever money they make off the remix to help those in need during the outbreak.
“Yo if y’all are getting royalties off of this @iamcardib@iMarkkeyz maybe u could consider donating a part of it to food banks or shelters that are probably flooded with new people needing help?” that person tweeted. “Just a thought. This s–t is scary.”
“That was my goal,” DJ iMarkkeyz responded on Twitter.
Cardi said she was also on board to donate and had the same thing in mind.
“Yes !THATS WHAT WE GOING TO DO !” she tweeted. “Keep in mind you don’t get your money right away …but even months from now there would be families with financial issues for getting laid off due to the virus . We will donate!”
“YESS!!! i love u,” someone tweeted after Cardi shared the news.
“A humble, generous, genuine queen!” another person wrote.
