The California Highway Patrol recently completed their report on Kevin Hart‘s Sept. 1 car crash and determined it was caused by the driver operating the vehicle recklessly. To conduct their investigation, the CHP disassembled the vehicle and evaluated its various parts.
Hart’s friend Jared Black was the driver of Hart’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda at the time, the comedian was in the passenger seat and Black’s fiancée Rebecca Broxterman was in the back seat.
And the crash happened because Black began driving at a high rate of speed then lost control. From there, the car ran off the Mulholland Highway in Malibu, went into a spin, then crashed into a fence before landing in an embankment.
The report also states that no one in the car was wearing seat belts, and the accident was caused solely by driver error, since the Plymouth had no mechanical issues. It also didn’t have any safety harnesses inside.
Hart hasn’t spoken about the accident and didn’t address it on social media. In fact, he hasn’t posted anything to Instagram since the day before the crash.
But on Thursday, the 40-year-old broke his silence through his lawyer Andrew Brettler and said he doesn’t hold any ill will toward Black or his fiancée.
“I have nothing but love for Jared and wish him and Rebecca a speedy recovery,” Hart stated.
Black was airlifted to a hospital after the crash with serious back injuries, and Broxterman only received minor injuries. And it’s been said they’ve both gotten lawyers.
As reported, Hart also received a severe back injury from the accident and had to undergo surgery to repair spinal fractures. He’s been receiving physical therapy in his Los Angeles area home for weeks now.
Hart returned to work this week on a modified schedule and did some promotional shoots for his upcoming film “Jumanji: The Next Level,” to be released on Dec. 13. He sat down for most of the shoots, even though he’s able to walk on his own.
And his lawyer said he’ll return to work fully after the close of 2019.
“While he’s doing a little work here and there for the film, he doesn’t expect to be fully back to work until the new year,” said Brettler.
