Gabby Sidibe has stepped out and shown out in her latest outfit, and fans are applauding her looks and ever-slimming-down frame.
The “Empire” actress wore a yellow and red African print dress to attend the birthday party of her pal and co-star Nicole Ari Parker this weekend. Perhaps feeling herself in her wear from the motherland, Sidibe played up her look by acting as if she were a gold-digging sugar baby.
“So sorry to hear of your great-granddaddy’s passing…. Might I have a copy of the certificate? I need it for the policy I took out on him….❤️,” read the caption of the Oct. 6 Instagram photo.
And fans eagerly celebrated Sidibe for her appearance.
“Congratulations sweetie on ur weight loss, I’m so PROUD of u, ur so beautiful, n side and out❤️🙏🏾”
“Love your weight loss. Beautiful as always”
“Come through Gabby! You look amazing!”
“U lookin girl go go go get em girl!(n the dream voice) 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥”
“You better do it Gabby!!”
“Hottttt 🔥🔥🔥”
Fans initially began noticing Sidibe’s slimdown in 2016 as she posted a steady stream of Instagram selfies where her followers mentioned she looked smaller than before.
Sidibe has dropped the extra pounds in the three years since she underwent laparoscopic bariatric surgery. The actress, who shot to fame after starring in the 2009 drama “Precious,” opened up about why she chose to go under the knife in her memoir “This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare.”
Sidibe’s weight loss was not about vanity, either. She disclosed to People magazine that after losing the 60 pounds and gaining it all back before, the final straw in her weight loss journey was her older brother Ahmed’s Type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
“My surgeon said they’d cut my stomach in half,” she wrote about the preparations for the surgery in her book. “This would limit my hunger and capacity to eat. My brain chemistry would change and I’d want to eat healthier. I’ll take it! My lifelong relationship with food had to change. The surgery wasn’t the easy way out. I wasn’t cheating by getting it done. I wouldn’t have been able to lose as much as I’ve lost without it.”
“I just didn’t want to worry,” Sidibe said to People. “I truly didn’t want to worry about all the effects that go along with diabetes. I genuinely [would] worry all the time about losing my toes.”
