Tommie Lee is giving the details on what caused her to have a physical altercation with her daughter when she visited her school last year.
At the time, Lee went to her 11-year-old’s middle school and wound up arrested in October 2018 and charged with felony aggravated assault, simple battery, first-degree child cruelty and disruption of public schools. The charges came after the “Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta” star allegedly shoved her daughter’s head into a locker at Griffin Middle School, which is in the Atlanta suburb of Smyrna, Georgia.
The indictment also revealed that before the supposed locker-bashing incident, Lee supposedly stormed into her child’s classroom, slapped her hands with a purse strap and hit her in the face. Before allegedly bashing the child’s head into the metal lockers, Lee grabbed her daughter’s hair and dragged her.
Lee, who ended up arrested again after violating a court order upon her initial release from prison that month, faced up to 54 years behind bars. In May, it was reported she avoided going to jail after pleading guilting to five charges, including first-degree cruelty to children. Instead, TMZ reported she’ll complete a private recovery program and a year of successful aftercare with licensed doctors. Afterward, she’ll be on probation for the duration of her total 10-year sentence.
“This whole situation really took a toll on me … You know how reports go, it was a lot put on that and it wasn’t like that at all,’ Lee explains of what led to the alleged incident on the July 15 edition of “The Breakfast Club.” “My daughter took edibles to school and she got a charge from that. She took ’em to school, all the kids ate ’em, and, basically, they called me… all the kids were rushed to the hospital.
“I was arrested when I was 15 years old as a runaway and that’s how I started my record,” she explains further. “It really hindered my life … I didn’t think it was gon’ be a charge [against my daughter] at first because everybody was OK, but then I got a letter in the mail saying that she was being charged.”
Lee said she lawyered up and emphasized to her daughter, who Lee said is a life-long honor roll student, the importance of behaving in class. She said peer pressure of her daughter wanting to gain popularity impacted her child.
As for whether or not Lee’s daughter was aware of the fact that the candy was laced with marijuana, Lee said she was told her daughter said so at school.
“But she don’t talk like that so I don’t know … I don’t think that she knew that. It was candy,” Lee says before explaining she flew her kids to Miami for spring break, where they had to stay with a pal of hers for three days as Lee took on hosting gigs.
“Basically, when I sent them home — because I still had to work — I sent them home with a stewardess and she said she found them in the back of a plane seat,” Lee said of where her child found the edibles.
But while Lee explained her story, fans were not necessarily convinced.
“Left her kids with a ‘homeboy’ for 3 days??? Then sent them home on the plane with who? WTF that plane seat story sounds bogus AF.”
“This chick is bogus, neglectful of her kids and straight up stupid if you ask me!”
“She’s a habitual liar. I don’t trust a damn word this bird says. She could tell me the sky is blue and id still have to go outside to check.”
