’90s R&B girl group Xscape made a huge comeback two years ago after spending more than 15 years apart, and if their reunion wasn’t enough, now folks can expect a new film detailing all of their lives!
For over a year now, the Xscape biopic has been up in the air, but group mate Tiny Harris confirmed on April 25, during a private listening party for her new EP, that the film was still in the works.
“You definitely going to see the biopic, it’s definitely coming, it’s in the works,” she said during the press conference at the listening party.
The film was initially slated to premiere on Bravo in 2018, but it apparently was delayed for unknown reasons. Harris didn’t specify a release date, but she did note that the group plans on recording new music for the movie.
“I’m sure we’ll be recording new music for the biopic and probably redoing some of our old songs. I’m sure it’ll be some new music from Xscape.”
The biopic will showcase the lives of all four group members Harris, Kandi Burruss, LaTocha and Tamika Scott growing up as Xscape and detail the events that led up to their reunion. “Love and Hip Hop” franchise exec Mona Scott-Young announced in 2017 that she’ll be producing the film.
As far as who will be playing each group member remains a mystery, but Harris did mention, she wanted her 23-year-old daughter Zonnique Pullins to star as her.
“I want Zonnique to play me just because … she knows me, she can basically mock me down to the tee,” said Harris. “I’m colorful in a lot of ways, sweet, calm, I’m quiet and then I’m obnoxious and crazy and she can do all of that. I would love her to play me.”
The R&B quartet reunited back together for the 2017 BET Awards show after lastly performing together nearly two decades ago. They performed their hit single “Just Kickin’ It” and blew the house down.
Other popular hits include “Understanding” and “Who Can I Run To?”
As far as Harris’ solo project, she’ll be dropping her track “I Fucking Love You” on all platforms May 3.
