After pulling in a record $15 million with a Hollywood fundraiser at George Clooney’s house, President Obama is moving to the other coast, New York City, to see if he can find the same magic at a fundraiser hosted by actress Sarah Jessica Parker.
Parker, who is married to actor Matthew Broderick, sent out an email appeal today to Obama supporters through the campaign, offering donors a chance to enter a lottery to win two tickets to the fundraiser at her New York home—a strategy that netted additional millions with the Clooney fundraiser in Hollywood.
“I’m hosting this event on June 14th because there is so much at stake this year, and I want to keep doing what I can,” said Parker, star of the quintessential New York show, Sex in the City. “As a woman, a mother, and an entrepreneur, I need to believe our country can be a place where everyone has a fair shot at success.”
Parker even waded into the political fray by suggesting the November election “will determine whether we get to keep moving forward, or if we’re forced to go back to policies that ask people like my middle-class family in Ohio to carry the burden—while people like me, who don’t need tax breaks, get extra help.”
“I hope you’ll help me welcome President Obama and the First Lady to New York,” she continued. “It should be fabulous.”
