Mary J. Blige Reveals She Spent More Than She Earned For Oscar-Nominated Role

Mary J Blige

Mary J. Blige’s estranged husband Kendu Isaacs is demanding an increase in spousal support citing the singer’s recent work but Blige says her Oscar-nominated role in the film “Mudbound” cost her money.

The “No More Drama” singer filed court documents for an upcoming divorce trial, arguing that she shouldn’t have to pay Isaacs any additional spousal support according to the “Blast”. The documents state, “The film ‘Mudbound’, for example, has produced no net income for Petitioner, but has garnered her critical acclaim and award nominations. Pursuant to the ‘Mudbound’ contract, the expenses Petitioner was required to pay in connection with filming ‘Mudbound’ were greater than her salary.”

Blige was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in “Mudbound”. However, the actress said her role in the film was intended to boost her brand & image. Her supporting role actually left her with more financial expenses.

She also claims her main source of income comes from touring and she’s been on the hunt for new projects in order to earn a salary. Blige also owes $25 million in advances for her old music like “Not Gon Cry” and “Just Fine”.

The R&B singer admits paying Isaacs any spousal support would be unjust, considering the couple got into $12 million of debt together and she’s the only one paying it off. Blige relays that her estranged husband is being spiteful and not making any efforts towards getting a job, using her for financial support.
