Trump Wants Cuba to Hand Over Assata Shakur; Black Twitter Tells Him to Back Off

Black Twitter users went in on Donald Trump Friday after he called for the return of social activist Assata Shakur, who he deemed a “cop killer.”

“Return the fugitives from American justice!” Trump says in Miami, Fla., Friday, June 16, “including the return of the cop killer Joanne Chesimard!”

Trump, who referred to Shakur by her former name, appeared in a predominantly Cuban Miami neighborhood, CNN reported, to discuss his plans to cancel the Barack Obama administration’s policy that eased American tensions with Cuba.

Shakur, who is a member of the former Black Panther Party and the aunt of late rap icon Tupac Shakur, was convicted of murdering a New Jersey state trooper in 1977. Two years later, she escaped from prison before gaining asylum in Cuba.

Black Twitter users swiftly reacted to Trump’s call, which was made on what would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday.
