Mariah Carey, No Doubt, Cee Lo Help NFL Kick Off Season

The National Football League is pulling in some big names for this year’s season kick off, tapping Mariah Carey and No Doubt to perform live from Rockefeller Plaza on September 5th.

The pregame show will air at 7:30 p.m. EST on NBC before the kickoff of the New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys game at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

According to cbsnews.com, Carey said she is thrilled to be performing in New York, a place that she calls her hometown. Carey, who passed Elvis with her 18th number one single in 2008, said she’s looking forward to making the season launch “even more festive.”

Carey’s latest single “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)” did not generate enough sells to land on Billboard’s Hot 100. The R&B diva’s upcoming studio album is tentatively due in March 2013. The performance on opening night is sure to boost sales and Carey’s chances at a 19th number one single.

No Doubt is no stranger to NFL performances, as the legendary rock group led by Gwen Stefani headlined the 2003 Super Bowl. The group is riding the success of its latest single, “Settle Down,” from the group’s sixth studio album, Push and Shove.

According to MTV.com, Cee Lo Green has joined forces with the NFL to create the tune “I Love Football.” The song, which is recorded to the melody of the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop,” will debut during the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football.

The NFL will give fans across the country their chance at 5 minutes of fame by allowing them to submit 90-second clips of themselves singing the tune, and the network will air a new video each week.
