Sway Calloway and Kanye West go way back, from the days when Kanye first came onto the scene as a producer and had aspirations to be a rapper. However that didn’t stop Kanye from going on one of his overly passionate explanations of his frustrations with the fashion industry, with Calloway as a target. As reported by vibe.com:
“After a cordial howdy do on The Angie Martinez Show and The Breakfast Club, it seemed like an on-air reunion with Sway would result in a bro-mie conversation about that long lost TV (‘Ye once told Enuff, ‘I just wanna tell everybody I gave Sway his first TV. And he need (sic) to remember that.’) and his Yeezus tour and his Adidas deal and such. But 10 minutes into the sit-down, West’s chill was nowhere to be found.
“‘How, Sway!? You ain’t got the answers, Sway!,’ he said after being asked about his discontent with the fashion biz. ‘I been doing this more than you! You ain’t been doing the education! You don’t have the answers, though, because you tryna give me advice about something. You ain’t spend $13 million a year tryna empower yourself. . .'”
Things eventually cooled down, with both men acknowledging that they usually argue off the air.
Sway, however, made a valid point: Why hasn’t Kanye created his own clothing line?
If he did, it could be the equivalent of Jay Z being turned down by every record label but creating his ownand going on to become the biggest rap star ever.
