Donald Trump was already in a sour mood as he casually strolled over to Marine One from the White House.
A cameraman captured an unexpected moment that has many growing concerned about Trump’s health and well-being. The strange gesture left viewers wondering whether it was a distress call or a sign of something worse.
After spending the day tearing reporters apart outside the White House, the president took a short walk to the helicopter.

Trump paused mid-stride to wave as he left town for the second time in three days.
Each time, the 80-year-old abruptly stops, turns his head, and lifts his hand toward something outside of the camera’s view.

He did it Wednesday night on his way to Clemson, South Carolina, as he crams in stops in the final two weeks before the Nov. 3 elections.
Before boarding, he took questions on the South Lawn and lost his patience as CNN’s Kaitlan Collins pressed him on his decision to waive sanctions against Russia.
“You’re a dummy. You’re a low-IQ person,” he snapped, as seen in a post shared online.
Moments later, Trump cut off an ABC News reporter, asking about the same issue with, “Are you a stupid person?”
The blowup had the press pool buzzing. But seconds later, when nobody was asking him anything, the footage said more than words.
In a clip posted on X, Trump returns the salute of the Marine stationed at the helicopter door, a long-standing presidential custom.
About eight seconds in, he stops again, turns away from his ride and waves blankly toward the White House ballroom construction site, with no crowd of supporters anywhere in sight.
“WHO IS HE WAVING AT?” one social media user asked. Wednesday’s moment was practically a rerun.
On Monday, as Trump left for a rally in Park City, Kansas, cameras caught him wandering across the White House’s newly renovated helicopter pad, waving, saluting and bowing as if acknowledging a crowd.
Around the 21-second mark of the footage, the camera pulled back to reveal an empty stretch of lawn. Meanwhile, his aides, including executive assistant Natalie Harp, were walking toward Marine One from a completely different direction.
Defenders have argued that crews building Trump’s ballroom were working just beyond the camera’s view. Others countered that a hard-hat crew doesn’t usually get a bow.
One widely shared post of Monday’s clip has been viewed more than 1.3 million times, and the comment sections quickly filled up.
Plenty of people handed the credit to whoever was holding the camera. “Pulitzer prize, at least nomination, to the camera person. Well done,” one user wrote.
Another floated a theory: “What if there is a ghost in the White House that only presidents can see?”
Wednesday’s repeat drew even more jokes. “He’s waving at the cranes,” one viewer wrote, while someone else simply offered, “Waving at his Ballroom.”
The sharpest criticism centered on the double standard. One person asked on X what Fox News would be saying if Joe Biden had “waved into the abyss” the same way.
Trump has made that exact kind of moment a punchline before. In April 2022, a viral clip claimed Biden tried to shake hands with thin air after a speech at North Carolina A&T State University, the HBCU in Greensboro. Fact-checkers later found he was gesturing to audience members behind him.
That didn’t stop Trump. Days later, at a rally in Ohio, he told supporters that Biden was “shaking hands with the air” and “walking around somewhat bewildered,” according to Business Insider.
The helipad clips also land as Trump’s rally crowds aren’t showing up the way he’d like. On Tuesday, he told a North Carolina audience he was “disappointed” with a crowd he pegged at 15,000.
This week, he also reposted a clip meant to show adoring fans lining his motorcade route, only for the footage to reveal a single woman cheering.
His physical stamina has drawn scrutiny too. In August, cameras caught Trump struggling with his leg as he brushed past reporters.
With early voting underway and the midterms less than two weeks out, the president keeps waving. Whether anyone is waving back is another question.
TRUMP DOES IT AGAIN 🤣🤣🤣 On the way to Marine One after picking fights with CNN and ABC News, Donald stops at 0:08 and waves blankly at a construction site. WHO IS HE WAVING AT👻 https://t.co/HWnVj4Sgga
