President Donald Trump’s Presidential Walk of Fame is making headlines again. Social media erupted in disgust over former President Barack Obama’s plaque.
His buddy Xi Jinping’s visit last week renewed attention to the gallery. Its displays showcase Trump’s personal vendettas against several former presidents.
Trump showed the Chinese communist dictator around, laughing and pointing at President Joe Biden’s portrait. It features an autopen instead of Biden. The device signs documents automatically. Trump repeatedly accused Biden of using it during his presidency. He implied Biden didn’t know what he was signing.
Also included in what critics call Trump’s disgusting and childish gallery along the West Colonnade of the White House is an Obama plaque with false information.
No other president in American history has disparaged and lied about his predecessors like Trump, opponents contend.
Next to a photo of Obama, Trump claims that the nation’s first Black president is “one of the most divisive political figures in American History.”
According to Trump’s plaque, the reasons for that description are Obama’s signature and historic achievement of the Affordable Care Act. Obamacare broke new ground by expanding Americans’ access to health insurance, including coverage for people with preexisting conditions.
On the plaque, Trump falsely calls the legislation “highly ineffective” and “Unaffordable.” Republicans, including Trump, have worked for almost two decades to tear the ACA apart. And they’ve recently almost succeeded by sending premiums through the roof when they refused to extend subsidies last January.
Trump also claims the ACA cost Democrats their House majority in 2010. Trump’s vitriol and jealousy toward the nation’s 44th president is unending as he continues his falsehoods on the Obama display.
“He presided over a stagnant Economy, approved the terrible Iran Nuclear Deal, and signed the one-sided Paris Climate Accords,” Trump says on the plaque.
The Iran nuclear deal, or Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), would have overseen Tehran’s nuclear program for at least a decade. Five other nations and the European Union signed it. Trump tore up the deal and the Paris Accords.
When Trump first took office in January 2017 after winning the 2016 presidential election, Obama handed over a stable, growing economy. Under Obama’s guidance, he oversaw a long recovery from the 2008 financial collapse and Great Recession, which he inherited from Republican President George W. Bush.
Trump ran the economy into the ground during his first term. Economists say that the 2017 tax cuts and increased federal spending significantly increased the national budget deficit and total debt. And he bungled the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving Biden to clean up his mess.
Trump’s sour grapes attitude toward all of Obama’s major achievements continues on the plaque. He accused the former president of everything from the spread of ISIS terrorism to Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014. The invasion is the forerunner of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 under Biden.
Social media erupted in anger and disgust.
“He is easily the smallest man in a position of massive power,” tennis great Martina Navratilova declared in a post on X.
Others agreed.
“I’ve never in my life seen such a demented, old, sick man with no soul.”
Poster Deanna from Indiana made this observation. “This wall to Trump’s narcissism and grandiosity will be the very first thing to be ripped down when he is replaced by a real president.”
Obama isn’t the only former president Trump trashes in the gallery. In addition to the auto pen photo, Trump calls Biden “the worst President in American History.” He criticizes Bush junior’s foreign wars and credits Bill Clinton’s success to Republicans.
