‘Racist Much?’: MAGA Mob Turns on Trump Ally Over Welfare Ad, and the Detail Enraging Them Says Everything

In an extraordinary twist, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is finding herself in an unusual position, on the other side of the MAGA faithful’s fury.

It seems the MAGA sycophant and former mouthpiece for President Donald Trump during his first term in office has committed a major travesty.

The extreme right-wing Republican put out a new ad Monday, warning residents of her state of a new welfare requirement.

“You pay taxes to cover welfare for people who just choose not to work,” Sanders says in a post on X, which she also says in the ad.

“That’s why I launched a welfare-to-work requirement. If you’re young, healthy, and get government assistance, you should work, go to school, or volunteer,” she added.

In fact, that’s a similar rule Republicans passed last year relating to food assistance, or SNAP, in Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

So, what’s the big deal? MAGA can’t be against this, can they? No, certainly not.

Her sin? She used a white actor to portray “Brad,” the lazy video gamer shown in the ad collecting taxpayer money because he doesn’t want to work.

“Meet Brad. Brad has turned relaxing into a full-time profession,” Huckabee Sanders says as she smiles and laughs in the ad.

“Brad” is shown kicked back on a bean bag, eating cheese balls and aggressively gaming before he appears to pass out from absolute fatigue.

“But you? You actually work hard,” the MAGA disciple says. “You pay taxes to cover welfare for guys like Brad, who just chose not to work,” she continues.

“That’s why I launched a welfare-to-work requirement. Now more Arkansans are working than ever before, even Brad,” she concludes.

Sanders isn’t laughing anymore. The MAGA sphere melted down and viciously attacked her for daring to show that in Arkansas plenty of white people are collecting welfare on the taxpayer dime.

X user and investor James Fishback was livid. “You attacked White men for welfare fraud instead of the real Welfare Queens. Disgraceful anti-White propaganda.”

Host and columnist at the right-wing The Blaze Auron MacIntyre agreed.

“Young white men as welfare queens? You’re a coward and a joke,” he raged.

And the MAGA hits kept coming.

“Yet another alleged ‘republican’ who would rather sell out her own core demographic with false accusations than risk being called a ‘racist’ by her political opponents. They just assume young White men will absorb infinity verbal abuse and still keep voting for them,” another enraged poster accused.

Another wrote, “Racist much? You know your target is NOT young white men.”

The blowback was so intense and so angry that Sanders, who is up for re-election in November, was forced to defend herself.

She posted a response on X later Monday.

“Some critics online don’t like my welfare work requirement ad. Next thing you know they’ll say I should have used cookies instead of cheese balls,” she joked.

“If you are able-bodied you should not collect welfare simply because you choose not to work. Period,” the MAGA Republican stated, firmly standing her ground against the bullies.

In Arkansas, more than 240,000 residents receive food aid from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, as of 2025. That’s 7.7 percent of the state’s population.

That’s less than the national average of 12.3 percent, but it still places the state at 43rd out of 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Independent journalism still matters.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

The wider picture isn't any steadier. Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under, it's rarely the ones built to center a Black perspective from the ground up that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
