Donald and Melania Trump‘s have never defined their marriage through public displays of affection.
Their appearances together have grown less frequent, fueling years of questions about their relationship and body language when around each other.
Those whispers grew louder this summer when Melania vanished from public view for an entire month.
The first lady finally resurfaced at the White House in August and greeted guests with a knowing joke after going MIA for over 30 days.
“I heard you missed me. Here I am,” Melania said at the podium. “Here I am!”
Now, Trump biographer Michael Wolff alleges Melania may not have spent a single night at the White House since her husband returned to power nearly 600 days ago.
According to Wolff, the first lady has been living a fully separate life far from the president and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Wolff made the startling claim Monday in the latest edition of “Howl,” his Substack newsletter. He wrote that Trump’s aides began searching for friendlier language to describe Melania’s unusual arrangement during the 2024 campaign.
“By the end of the campaign, aides, when queried, were actively seeking new language for the situation: ‘She’ll be more like a part-time first lady,’” Wolff wrote.
The “Fire and Fury” author claims Melania is now “firmly ensconced in New York City.” He said she is running a Melania-branded business that reported $17 million in net profits last year.
The White House answered Wolff’s allegations with a denial delivered with brass knuckles.
Spokesperson Davis Ingle called Wolff “a professional scumbag and serial liar.” He added that Wolff’s brain has been “completely warped by his severe and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Wolff has spent years questioning the Trump marriage. He claims a top Trump aide once offered a blunt explanation for Melania’s absence during the 2024 campaign.
“She hates his f—kng guts,” Wolff recalled the aide saying.
Wolff described the couple’s arrangement as a “particular Trump-style pretense.” He said the Trumps make so little effort to sell the appearance of togetherness that the public understands what it is seeing.
The author also pointed to their birthdays. Trump went on a Truth Social posting spree when Melania turned 56 in April. However, none of the posts wished her a happy birthday. Melania appeared to return the favor when Trump turned 80 in June.
Social media users did not find Wolff’s allegations particularly shocking, with many already questioning Trump’s relationship with Melania and pointing to their long-running public distance
“Melania has a secret life…” one Threads user wrote. Another said, “It’s not ‘startling.’ We’ve known about it all along.”
“Let all the s—t hit the fan,” one user declared.
Others on the Daily Beast dragged Trump’s devoted 35-year-old aide Natalie Harp into the conversation.
One commenter asked, “Trump has his Natalie, I wonder if she has a ‘Steve?’” Another wrote, “So, um, who’s she sleeping with? Come on, be honest, that’s what we’re all wondering about.”
Wolff claims Melania has accomplished something unprecedented. She has allegedly avoided living at the White House while building a multimillion-dollar business from her first lady brand.
“With what leverage did she negotiate this deal?” Wolff asked. “What else has she managed to get?”
The White House insists Wolff is lying.
Still, its furious response has not quieted the conversation. If Melania has not slept at the White House during Trump’s second term, the first couple is not merely maintaining separate bedrooms. They may be maintaining separate zip codes.
Moreover, the White House has to do better in creating a normal narrative around this crazy discourse.
