Tiger Woods stepped back into public view this week. The internet immediately traded its golf visor for an unofficial medical coat.
The golf legend has faced a difficult stretch in recent years, with injuries and financial setbacks affecting his ability to compete at the level that once made him one of the most dominant players.
Despite the challenges, Woods has continued working toward another comeback after a recent stint in rehab.

The golf legend appeared in a prerecorded Golf Channel video on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
He was honoring his longtime friend and former Stanford teammate Notah Begay III, who received the Payne Stewart Award.
Woods’ message was supposed to keep the attention on Begay. Social media sliced that plan straight into the rough.
Viewers became alarmed by Woods’ thinner appearance, tired eyes, and subdued delivery.
The 50-year-old’s absence followed a March rollover crash, a DUI arrest and a reported rehabilitation stay in Switzerland.
"More people need to know what you've done and how you've served … you're trying to raise the bar to allow people to go ahead and achieve a lot more in life."

Social media was quick to weigh in, noting the wear and tear on Woods’ body.
“My gosh this guy looks like a corpse. Hope all the bulls—t was worth it, Tiger,” one X user wrote. Two others asked, “What happened to Tiger’s mustache?” and “What happened to his face?” A third suggested, “Tiger should just let it go and shave his head and beard.”
That advice sounded almost affectionate compared to the rest of X. Mercy apparently missed its tee time.
“TEMU Tiger Woods checks in,” one critic joked. “The older he gets the more he looks like the putt putt clown from Happy Gilmore. U see it too, admit it,” another wrote.
Over the years, Woods has endured trauma after trauma, leaving anyone looking exhausted.
He became golf’s biggest superstar while still in his 20s. He later collected 82 PGA Tour victories and 15 major championships. Woods did not simply dominate golf. He transformed the sport into must-see television and became one of the world’s most recognizable athletes. That history came with a staggering physical repair bill.
Woods has undergone seven back surgeries and a procedure to repair a torn Achilles tendon.
He also needed extensive reconstruction after his devastating 2021 rollover crash. That wreck left him with multiple fractures in his leg, foot and ankle. He has not played in a major tournament since the 2024 Open Championship.
His latest crash brought legal trouble. Authorities accused Woods of driving at high speed before hitting a pickup truck that was towing a trailer. He passed a breathalyzer test. However, officers said he showed other signs of impairment. Two hydrocodone pills were reportedly found in his pocket.

Woods pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor DUI-related charges. He requested a jury trial. His next courtroom appearance is expected in September.
Whoopi Goldberg defended her friend on “The View.” Her remarks came after Dave Portnoy argued that Woods should spend time in jail.
“I don’t like kicking a man when he’s down,” Goldberg said. “I’ll leave that to other folks.”
Joy Behar still wondered why a millionaire with chronic pain does not hire a driver. At this point, a chauffeur would cost far less than another mugshot. It might even come with bottled water.
Vanessa Trump has also stood by Woods throughout all of this. The couple reportedly bond over golf and their children from previous marriages. She shares five children with Donald Trump Jr.
Woods shares daughter Sam and son Charlie with ex-wife Elin Nordegren. Charlie has followed his father onto the golf course. Sam presented Woods during his World Golf Hall of Fame induction.
Woods’ marriage collapsed in 2009 amid a blowup at his Florida home. Reports claimed Nordegren shattered the windows of his Cadillac Escalade with a golf club.
For now, Woods’ appearance may reflect his injuries and difficult recovery. Fans saw frailty. His loved ones appear to see a man still fighting his way back.
