Legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire and multi-Grammy award-winning singer Lionel Richie are nearing the end of their second tour together after performing and traveling for more over a month this summer.
The two acts first came together for their “Sing a Song All Night Long Tour” in 2023 and reached commercial success by packing out venues in states all over the country.
It’s no secret that touring requires a lot of physical endurance and can be taxing.
This makes it even more impressive that these men, who are in their mid to late 70s, continue to dedicate themselves to fans every other night across more than 20 cities.
But it doesn’t mean the tour hasn’t come without its challenges. Richie already had an incident earlier this year that led to a postponement and his hospitalization.
Now another medical emergency has occurred, but this time it’s with a member of Earth, Wind and Fire.

The group had to postpone its Thursday, Aug. 6, concert in San Francisco after one of their members suffered a severe health setback.
TMZ reported that it was a “cardiac incident.”
Chase Center, the stadium where the concert was to take place, released a statement on Instagram just minutes before showtime.
It reads, “Earth, Wind & Fire is unable to perform as scheduled tonight due to a medical emergency involving a member of their band.”
They assured fans that the concert would be rescheduled and a new date would be announced.
They instructed customers to “retain their tickets” to use for the new date or for refunds at the point of purchase.
“We sincerely apologize for the unexpected change and appreciate everyone’s understanding,” they concluded.
TMZ later identified drummer John Paris as the band member at the center of the medical emergency, ruling out longtime Earth, Wind & Fire members Philip Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson..
Paris has been behind the drums for Earth, Wind & Fire since 2001, making him a fixture of the group’s live sound for roughly 25 years.
Before joining the legendary band, the veteran musician built an extensive résumé working with artists including Patti LaBelle, Sheila E., Stephanie Mills and Philip Bailey
Fans shared their well-wishes in the comments.
One concerned person wrote, “Oh my. I hope everything is ok.”
Another fan, who was supposed to be an audience member that night said, “Such a shock. We were there.”
A third said, “Too old to be performing multiple shows at various places for long periods of time.”
Another typed, “I hope he makes it to September,” referencing the funk band’s popular song “September.”
Two prior shows were postponed at the top of the tour when Richie said he experienced dizziness mid-performance at the June 24 Saint Paul, Minnesota show.
The “All Night Long” singer got through about 50 minutes of his set when he started to feel ill.
Though he tried to sit down and continue the show he announced an unscheduled intermission, which eventually turned to him cancelling the rest of the concert – including Earth, Wind and Fire’s segment.
Richie went to the hospital as a precaution.
As a result, they canceled the next two shows in Chicago on the 26th and Columbus on the 27th.
They returned to the stage on June 30 in Pittsburgh.
The fellas have four more scheduled performances on August 8 and 9 in Palm Springs and Los Angeles, California. The final two shows on the 11th and 14th will take place in Phoenix and Austin.
