Rapper The Game came to Nicki Minaj’s defense after this year’s Grammys snub and after seeing #NoGrammyForGranny trend on Twitter following the recent announcement.
Minaj received a total of zero nominations for the upcoming 2023 Grammy Awards despite dropping back to back collaboration hit singles, “Do We Have a Problem” and “Bussin” with rapper Lil Baby. “Do We Have a Problem” charted at No. 2 on the Streaming Songs chart and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Sales chart, selling 48,000 within its first week.
“Bussin,” which was released one week after their first successful collab, debuted at No. 20 on Billboard charts and continued to chart for three consecutive weeks after that, according to Pop Data.
Minaj’s latest single, “Super Freaky Girl” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Digital Sales Chart.
With Minaj’s name being one of the most streamed names on the charts, it came as a shock to The Game — who featured as Minaj’s love interest in her 2014 hit “Pills and Potions” — that she received no accolades from the Recording Academy.
“This is funny because Nicki is hands down the reason the female rap game of this era is thriving the way it is!! Literally nuts mfs act any differently.”
Game wasn’t the only celeb who disagreed with Minaj not receiving any ounce of flowers from the Grammys. Her “Say So” remix partner, Doja Cat, liked a tweet from The Shade Room that suggested Minaj had been snubbed.
“Nicki Minaj should have a Grammy for every room in her big house by now. She’s being snubbed over and over again and at this point it’s personal. Everyone who got nominated deserved it but we can all agree Nicki is being treated unfairly.”
Back in October, Minaj went on a Twitter rant after realizing her song “Super Freaky Girl” was removed from the rap category and placed into pop for Grammy consideration.
“I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY,” she wrote via Twitter, “If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll. I’d actually LUV 2 c a more street record win- male OR female! IJS rightIsRight.”
Minaj has not made any recent comment regarding the Grammys nominations.
