Tyler Perry responded to a recent article by Atlanta Black Star and denied calling out former cast mates Janet Jackson and Jill Scott as a reason why the third “Why Did I Get Married” film has not yet happened.
Perry took a screenshot of a headline and posted it onto his Insta story with a caption that read, “I guess people write these kinds of headlines for click bait. It’s sad. I didn’t call out Janet and Jill and they’re not holding up another “Why Did I Get Married.”
The filmmaker continued to state he doesn’t have a script created but does in fact have a concept in mind if there were to be a third adaptation.
“We’re all fully grown now and I think some of our marriages would be solid and we would be dealing with what most married couples are dealing with at our ages.”
Perry hinted at some examples he’d touch over, “Menopause, mid ife crisis, our kids going off to start their own lives and marriages and our parent getting older and also how as you mature in marriage it just starts to get better or fall apart.”
As his explanation came to an end, Perry reiterated his overall point that Jackson nor Scott was holding up any form of production up for a third installment.
“No one is holding up anything and I’m not calling anyone out. Stop it.”
Perry also tagged his cast members from the duology and Perry’s on-screen wife, Sharon Leal, reposted his statement onto her Instagram Story.
Earlier this week, Perry was interviewed by “Entertainment Tonight” at the Grio Awards and stated he would create a third “Why Did I Get Married” movie “If Janet and Jill Scott say yes.”
“So, waiting for them to say it,” he said.
Scott even responded to a tweet posted by “Entertainment Tonight” that featured his interview.
“@tylerperry, @MichaelJaiWhite @LammanRucker @tashasmith4real @richjonesactor and Sharon Leal already said yes?? I just got a text message yesterday. Hey @JanetJackson did you get a text message?” the Philadelphia native tweeted.
