Reginae Carter opened up about her previous relationship with rapper YFN Lucci during a recent interview with “The Shade Room.”
When asked if the arrest of Lucci, whose real name is Rashawn Bennett, played a part in their breakup at mark 18:46 of the interview, Carter candidly discussed what caused her to make the decision to walk away from her former beau.
“As you guys can see you can look it up, it’s never been like the arrest. It’s like — it’s me and my mental. I feel like me and Ray like everything is cool like I still wish the best for him but you can’t — I’m 23 years old.”
While Carter expressed still having love for her ex, she also clarified that she still has life to live and things to accomplish.
“I want to live. I can’t really do that with a man in jail. I’m sorry, I’m 23 years old, but at the end of the day I still wish the best for him.”
The timing of Carter and Bennett’s official split raised eyebrows to some who believed she left her man when things got hard, however the fashionista said her and Bennett were still together for a little while even after he had gotten locked up.
“I was with him for a minute when he was in jail,” she said.
Even though Carter and Bennett were still together during the beginning of his arrest, she refrained from seeing him because it was when COVID-19 was at its highest.
The former couple first sparked dating rumors in 2018, when she was 19 and he was 27. Their relationship immediately raised concerns due to their eight-year age gap as well as Bennett having multiple children.
Carter and Bennett experienced a very on-again, off-again relationship until they officially called it quits in 2020, after Lucci was arrested and charged with “racketeering, violating the state’s anti-gang law, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony” reported WAGA-TV FOX5.
Since Bennett’s arrest, Carter decided to take some time to herself before hopping back into the dating world. Time has passed, hearts have healed and Carter is now in a relationship with popular YouTuber Armon Warren, who featured the aspiring actress in several of his YouTube videos.
