‘Learn to Distinguish’: Nia Long Shares ‘A Tip’ About Mental Health Amid Ime Udoka’s Cheating Scandal and Suspension

Actress Nia Long is only addressing things she deems necessary. Almost two weeks after news broke that her fiancé, Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, had been suspended for the 2022-23 season after violating team policies and engaging in a consensual relationship with a fellow staff member, the “Best Man” star appears to be putting her mental well-being first.

On Tuesday, Oct. 4, the 51-year-old Hollywood veteran took to her Instagram page to share a memo with her 3.8 million online supporters that read, “A tip for mental health.. learn to distinguish who deserves an explanation, who deserves one answer, and who deserves absolutely nothing.”

Although the comments section of the post were restricted, it didn’t stop fans from showering the actress with support during this challenging time, many of whom either agreed with the statement or added to it, including one user who wrote, “Love this because no matter what people create their own stories anyway.” Another person added, “Love you Nia! My girl since you were Brandy. Sending you positive vibes!”

Since news of the scandal emerged, Long has remained relatively quiet after initially thanking her supporters via her spokesperson Shannon Barr. The latter relayed the message that the “Fatal Affair ” star requested her privacy while she processed the entire ordeal, which she only became privy to just days before the public.

Over the weekend, the  “Friday” actress was approached by a reporter while out with her 10-year-old son, Kez Udoka, whom she shares with the former San Antonio Spurs player. When asked about her current state, the star said: “I don’t have any comments right now; I’m sorry.”

Things got even more awkward when the reporter started following Long and her son to their vehicle. “There’s nothing that you want to say? Are you guys working things out?” the camera person asked, but the actress just laughed off that question. When asked, “Is there any chance of forgiveness?” The star entered her car, ignoring the reporter.

Long and Udoka met in Boston in 2010 after being set up by mutual friends. They got engaged five years later with no plans to get married, telling Essence, “Marriage is not a priority for me. I’m not saying I’ll never do it; It’s just not where we are as a family,”
