Kanye West is taking a celebratory yet dark approach to news that his estranged wife Kim Kardashian and SNL alum Pete Davidson have broken up after only nine months of dating.
Early Monday morning, August 8, the Grammy Award-winning rapper took to his Instagram account where he posted a photo of an digitally altered New York Times newspaper front page with the headline that read “SKETE DAVIDSON DEAD AT AGE 28.”
The captionless post, which received over 1.8 million likes in the three hours since Ye’s upload, also targeted the “Jail” emcee’s former pal and frequent collaborator Kid Cudi with a sub-headline that read, “Kid Cudi meant to play funeral but fearful of bottle throwers,” a jab at the “Day ‘n’ Nite” rapper who walked off the stage at last month’s Rolling Loud festival in Miami after fans threw objects at him while onstage.
While some social media fans found the photo humorous, including one fan who seemingly brushed the post as: “The man just wants his family back.”
However, not everyone was laughing. Many people in the comments section called on the Chicago native to end the feud, including one Instagram user who wrote, “You have four children. Isn’t it time you stopped being one?” Another person commented, “You are 45 years old. Please take your Lexapro and log off for the day, baby.”
A third declared Ye “embarrassing!” They added, “Stop this nonsense and focus on your craft and kids! This boy is 28! If you want to troll anyone, troll yourself for marrying that plastic and meddling in that coven of a family. As a fan I hate this for you. Grow up jor!”
Still, this isn’t Ye’s first time faking the seasoned comedian’s death. Last March, the “Jesus Walks” emcee buried a cartoon version of Pete alive as he rapped about beating up the actor in his visual for “Eazy.”
Kim and Pete began dating last fall after her filing for divorce from Ye in February 2021. The former couple have been married for seven years and share four children: North, 9, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 3. Divorce proceedings have been delayed again after the rapper’s fifth attorney, Samantha Spector, bailed on the producer, citing an irretrievably broken relationship. However, she would not further elaborate on the matter.
