Lupita Nyong’o has proved she’s not afraid of insects. In an Instagram post, the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” actress shared a short clip from her dining experience celebrating the famous Copenhagen restaurant Noma in Los Angeles earlier this week. The 39-year-old foodie looked stunning wearing a pink bubble gum one- shoulder jumpsuit. However, fans focused less on her beautiful ensemble and more on her eating a slice of mango fruit sprinkled with ants.
“You can call me Ant-Woman!!” Nyong’o wrote in the caption with the hashtags, #Marvel #Ants and #Foodie. “It’s ants,” she said in the clip before scarfing down the remainder of the ant-covered fruit. “It’s really good. It’s not even crunchy or anything.”
Nyong’o‘s video received over 205,637 likes, but many in the comments lost their appetite after watching her eat ants. Her “Black Panther” co-star Winston Duke said, “What is u doin’ baybeh…what you eating ants fohhh?!! This is ant-agonizing me…I’m feeling antsy…what would yo aunt say…my antena is going crazy….”
Actress Gabrielle Dennis questioned, “On purpose??? I would’ve definitely assumed the waiter dropped mine and I would’ve asked for a new one…maybe I don’t get out enough but YOU at least look great lol.”
A third critic said, “I’m a foodie too, but, still…I got limitations.”
Most of the commentators were taken aback and confused by Nyong’o willingness to eat bug-adorned foods. Some even made references to the 1998 ant-friendly film “A Bug’s Life” and Jordan Peele‘s latest “Nope.”
“Are you sure ants didn’t get on the food while left unattended….”
“What’s that new movie coming out called? oh yeah… ‘NOPE.'”
“That’s what my mango looked like when I dropped it on the ground that one time.”
“I’ll take your word for it. Don’t need em tickling my belly from the inside.”
“Girlllllll, noooooooooo, this is not ‘A Bug’s Life.'”
However, there were a few supportive followers who agreed with the “Us” star and her adventurous food choices. “If Lupita endorses, I’m down,” said one person, while another wrote, “Different varieties of ants have different flavors!” A third individual said, “They taste like pepper. They aren’t that bad.”
A fourth person jokingly said, “Well can you come eat the ones on my porch?”
