You Are Messing with People’s Beloved Characters’: Kim Fields Opens Up About the Ideas of ‘Facts of Life’ and ‘Living Single’ Reboots

Kim Fields provided a warning to individuals in the entertainment industry wanting to create reboots for two of her hit television series: “Facts of Life” and “Living Single.”

The 53-year-old disclosed this information during a June 28 interview on “The Today Show” while promoting the second season of Netflix’s “The Upshaws.”

Fields explained despite having the interest to see where her “Facts of Life” character Dorothy “Tootie” Ramsey and Regine Hunter from “Living Single” are in the present time, a reboot, if not planned correctly, can tarnish audiences’ perspective of their “beloved characters.”

When asked if a “Facts of Life” reboot is underway following the live remake last December, she said, “There’s always talk about doing reboots. Not just for ‘Facts of Life’ for ‘Living Single.’ That’s just a very popular trend right now.”

Fields added, “And while I respect it, and, of course, I have beloved shows that I want to see what they’d be doing right now. I think you have to be really careful with reboots because if you don’t get it right, you are messing with people’s beloved characters.”

Fields wrapped up the discussion by saying despite there being talks of possible reboots of two of her shows, she expressed how happy she was that everyone is too busy to participate. She said, while laughing, “And thankfully everybody’s busy — I got a new show I’m doing!” This isn’t the first time Fields has addressed a possible reboot for “Living Single.”

In 2019, Fields opened up during an interview on “The Tamron Hall Show” about how she and the cast, including Queen Latifah, Erika Alexander, Kim Coles, T.C. Carson, John Henton and the show’s creator Yvette Lee Bowser have had many discussions regarding that topic.

She said, “We have talked about it a little bit, the six of us and Yvette. A lot of it deals with our schedule, because, praise God, everyone is working, everybody is busy, everybody’s got stuff to do.”
