Dwyane Wade gave fans a rare look into his relationship with his youngest son, Xavier Zechariah Wade.
Wade welcomed Xavier with former “Basketball Wives” star Aja Metoyer in 2013. At the time, it was reported that Wade and Gabrielle Union were taking a break from their long-term relationship. The pair would ultimately reconcile and get married in 2014, following Xavier’s birth.
In a series of Instagram stories shared on April 17, the father-and-son duo spent some time together as they played golf and recited the lyrics to Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode” featuring Drake.
As Wade’s video circulated online, many expressed how happy they were to see Wade be a part of his son’s life. One individual mentioned how they hoped Xavier had a relationship with his other siblings. Wade has three other children, including Zaire Wade, Zaya Wade and Kaavia James Union Wade.
“I’m glad he is actually spending time with him instead caring from a distance.”
“I’m so glad he is in this child’s life. Good move Wade.”
“He finally acknowledged him publicly… bout time.”
“Glad he finally posting him. I hope he has a relationship with his other siblings. He should be given the same love and opportunities as the other children.”
In the past, Wade opened up about how challenging it has been not having Xavier live with him. The father of four wrote in his photographic memoir “Dwyane,” which was released last September, “Xavier doesn’t live with me, so we don’t get to see each other every day like I do with my other kids. It makes things challenging at times, but it’s my job to make sure he never has to carry that weight.”
Wade added, “It’s up to me to make sure he knows he’s being raised with love even if we don’t live under the same roof. And it’s up to me to let him know that while distance may physically separate us at times, I’m always going to be the man he can depend on to love him and help lead him.”
