‘Keep Breaking Backboard King Diesel’: Shaquille O’Neal’s Singing Skills Fall Flat with Fans

Shaquille O’Neal is considered to be a man of many talents, with success in sports, acting and entrepreneurship. But there’s an area where O’Neal seems to fall short in his fans’ eyes: his singing abilities or lack thereof.

In a March 24 Instagram post shared with his millions of followers, O’Neal started off a recording by clearing his throat before attempting to sing The Jackson Five’s 1969 classic “Who’s Loving You.”

The “Inside the NBA” sports analyst is seen mouthing the lyrics, “When I had you, I treated you bad…And I wonder who’s loving you.” In addition to the clip, O’Neal thanked Elijah Everett in the caption for being his backup singer. He wrote, “when i had you thanks to my backup singer @iamelijaheverett.”

Following O’Neal’s upload, Everett reposted the same video on his respective social media account and wrote in the description how the pair’s singing talents “runs in the family!”

As fans viewed the recording, many voiced their honest opinion in O’Neal’s comments section. The responses ranged from a couple of people pleading with the 50-year-old to stick to what he knows best while others pointed out that they can see he isn’t the one singing.

“Maybe you should stick to basketball.

“Stick to your day job lol”

“Keep breaking backboard King Diesel. The singing is a wonderful effort though. Made my day!”

“Shaq if you don’t sit ya BIG head big foot big hands big lip the hell down and stop making noise in my ears. You know damn well you not singing.”

“Lmaoo u almost had me but I remember he got a thunder voice.”

“We know your not the one singing.”

Among the previous remarks, a few individuals mentioned O’Neal clearing his throat at the beginning of the video. One person wrote, “Let me clear my throat..first (laughing emoji).” Another Instagram user called the former basketball player “extra,” saying, “So extra with the throat-clearing.”
