Halle Berry sparked marriage rumors on Jan. 1 after uploading an intimate post with her boyfriend, Van Hunt.
Berry and Hunt, who recently went to an undisclosed location for a getaway, have been dating for over a year. The actress made their relationship social media official in September 2020 after posting a photo of herself wearing a shirt with Hunt’s name.
In the Instagram upload, Berry and Hunt were seen kissing in what appears to be an empty church overlooking a body of water. What immediately prompted marriage rumors wasn’t particularly the photo but instead the 55-year-old’s caption. In it, Berry wrote, “well… IT’S OFFICIAL!”
In addition to the caption, Berry also shared a selfie of her and Hunt with the words “It’s 2022” written on it. As the mother of two’s post began circulating on the internet, Berry’s peers and fans began flooding her comment section with congratulatory messages.
At the same time, several individuals pointed out they too thought Berry’s post showcased a marriage ceremony until they swiped to the next photo.
“I see no one scrolled lol.”
“It’s officially 2022 is what I thought she was saying but congrats.”
“You got us good until I swiped right.”
“Haha, good one (remember to swipe through to see both pics).”
Among the swiping remarks, others expressed how confused they were by Berry’s post. One wrote, “Wait..what?” Another said, “Is this Happy New Year or April Fools?”
The veteran actress later cleared up the accusations in another post.
“We were just having some New Year’s Day fun! People clearly don’t swipe as much as we thought they did. [laughing emoji] thank you for the well wishes, tho’, it really touched our hearts! Now it’s OFFICIAL, the internet is no longer undefeated [tongue out emoji] #nomoreswipes4me #Januaryfoolsday, she wrote.”
However, the “Bruised” star disclosed in the past how the pair had a commitment ceremony thanks to her 8-year-old son Maceo Martinez. The actress shares Martinez with her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.
Berry said during her guest appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” on Nov. 22 after being congratulated on the impromptu ceremony, “It was a ceremony by an 8-year-old in the back seat of the car who said, ‘Mom, you should get married to him.’ And I said, ‘Really, I should marry him?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I pronounce you man and wife.’ We were like, ‘Oh, OK. We’re married.’ But we’re not married. So, that’s our commitment ceremony.”
Additional details regarding Berry’s recent post with Hunt have yet to be released.
