Earl “DMX” Simmons‘ family’s ongoing division of his estimated $1 million estate took a dramatic turn on Oct. 22 after a report revealed a Georgia woman has claimed she is one of late rapper’s children.
Conflicting reports following DMX’s death back in April from a cocaine-induced heart attack said he fathered 14 to 15 children aged 1 to 28 years old.
An Oct. 22 Page Six report says a woman named Raven Barmer-Simmons contacted the “Party Up” emcee’s adult children regarding claims to his estate these past few weeks. Because of the number of children DMX reportedly has, the courts are requiring everyone to take a paternity test before being given a chance to receive anything from the estate, as the rapper died without leaving a will.
In addition to the $1 million, the estate will also include any future earnings from his music and films. DMX sold more than 74 million albums and also has had a successful movie career.
On the same day the Page Six report emerged, Judge Helen Blackwood assigned DMX’s three sons Xavier, Tacoma, and Sean Simmons — shared with his ex-wife Tashera Simmons — as temporary administrators to the late rapper’s estate.
Following Blackwood’s decision, the trusts and estates attorney of the three DMX sons, Herbert Nass, said, “Judge Blackwood appointed Xavier, Tacoma, and Sean as the temporary administrators of the estate.”
Nass added, “The next big thing is to determine who are the rightful heirs. The estate is going to ask everyone to prove paternity through DNA testing. All the legal children of DMX will be entitled to an equal share of his estate.”
Other people who have petitioned to be an administrator of the late rapper’s estate include his fiancée and his two oldest daughters, Sasha Simmons and Jada Oden.
As news about DMX’s estate and another possible heir went viral, many social media users asked why Barmer-Simmons only now decided to claim DMX is her father. Others suggested that her alleged recent actions are irrelevant because paternity testing will resolve everything.
“Why come out now when it’s money involved??”
“What does she expect to get at this point tho?”
“Smh I wonder why she waited so long tho! And no shade at all but I hope he even had enough in his estate for these children to be fighting over smh.”
“A simple DNA test will solve it.”
“Well, at least they’re taking a paternity test.”
“Why would she lie when they gonna do a DNA test to prove it before she gets ANYTHING?”
Simmons passed away at 50 on April 9, just days after being found unresponsive in his New York home. His memorial was held later that month on April 24, and the funeral took place the following day.
