‘The Absolute Gall’: Meghan McCain Claims Whoopi Goldberg Turned On Her While Joy Behar Was a Mean Girl In ‘Toxic Work Environment’ at ‘The View,’ Social Media Calls Out Her Hypocrisy

Meghan McCain left “The View,” last August after four often combative years on the show. However, unlike many of her exchanges with fellow co-hosts over topics like immigration and politics, the lone conservative’s exit was calm, without any frills or fuss–at least on her end.

Yet in her forthcoming new memoir “Bad Republican,” McCain appeared to have much to say about her time on the show, her exit, and her co-hosts ,Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar who she seemingly claims ultimately caused her departure.

In an excerpt captured by Variety, the former daytime host cited a “toxic work environment” behind her leaving the series which involved co-hosts Goldberg and Behar.

McCain maintained that she had “good memories, but “I’m not going to dish on every piece of drama that I witnessed, I had a lot of good memories on the show, and it was a privilege to be part of such an iconic piece of TV history.”

She added, “And yes, I know that most jobs in TV are stressful, being in a pressure-cooker environment, and that’s to be expected,” she noted, before going on to accuse the show of bringing out “the worst in people.”

The Whoopi Goldberg problem…

McCain later attacked the “Ghost” star, claiming the actress failed to make good on a promise she made to her father, the late John McCain, in which Goldberg reportedly promised “to care of ” the author. The 36-year-old said “kept her word” for only two years.

“The thing about Whoopi, though, is that she yields so much power in culture and television, and once she turns on you, it can create unfathomable tension at the table,” she wrote.

“I found her open disdain for me more and more difficult to manage as the years went on and it became more frequent. Occasionally, if the show’s political discourse veered into territory that she found disagreeable, Whoopi would cut me off, sometimes harshly.”

Elsewhere she wrote that Goldberg and Behar “grew meaner and less forgiving” as former President Trump’s tenure went on. McCain said she felt her co-stars began to see her “as if I had become an avatar for everything they hated about the president.”

The Joy Behar problem…

She also touched on her troubled relationship with Behar and a very specific moment the two shared following a debate.

McCain said on air, “Joy, you missed me so much when I was on maternity leave! You missed fighting with me!” Behar responded saying, “I did not. I did not miss you. Zero.”

McCain wrote, “Nothing anyone has ever said to me on camera since I have been giving interviews since I was 22 years old ever hit this hard.”

She added, “I felt like I’d been slapped. She yelled out at me sharp and intensely and I believed her.”

However, people on social media were quick to remind McCain of her indiscretion that played a role in her bittersweet experience.

The receipts..

“What about all the times we the audience and her co hosts visibly and audibly gasped when she disrespected Joy on air. How are supposed to miss that?!” wrote one Twitter user.

Another added, “No self-awareness from this one. And I cannot believe that Meghan McCain came for Whoopi Goldberg. Whoopi? WHOOPI???

For years, after MM burned all her other @TheView bridges, Whoopi still ran defense for her until it became impossible. #ByeAgainBitch #TheView”

“Meghan McCain is what happens when you don’t need self-awareness or accountability to survive in the world because your privilege and money do the rest for you.

The absolute gall of labelling Whoopi and Joy as toxic when she spent years screaming over them in front of us.”
